The Ballarat Poultry Society is one of the oldest Poultry Societies in Victoria and aims to serve members in the Central Victorian area.
The main aim of the club is to promote the breeding and exhibition of purebred poultry, but is also supports the home fancier who likes to have “good looking chooks” in the backyard.
Although poultry has been with us for 5,000+ years, the domestic variety now comes in many different breeds and varieties (colours). The best place to see the wider range is at our two shows, held on the 4th Saturday in May and the 4th Saturday in August in the poultry pavilion at the Ballarat Showgrounds when up to 500 birds may be on display.
Members of the club breed and exhibit large fowl and bantams in hard and softfeather varieties, and also waterfowl. We often, but not always, have birds available for sale to interested people.
Our regular meeting is at 7.30pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month (Dec and January excl)
